Anna W. Edwards

'Artists-in-Residence’ Embrace Creative Possibilities

Anna W. Edwards, a resident of San Leandro, Calif., is nurturing an artistic passion that was dormant for years. When Robert Clemons was invited to show some of his pen and ink portraits at the Oakland Museum last year, he was surprised and delighted. The E. E. Cleveland Manor resident had been drawing since he was a child, and in his late 30s he earned a B.F.A. at the prestigious California College of the Arts. But his career had been spent as a housing inspector, not a professional artist, and he was flabbergasted when the curator of the museum show gave his work a featured location. He remembers telling himself, “Maybe I’ve arrived and I didn’t even know I was coming.”

Artship Foundation

"Artship's mission is to offer broad access to the transforming powers of the creative process and to present new opportunities for breakthrough thinking and creative work…"

Oh, what could have been.  The jury is still out and the organization could still reach those legendary heights it is cut out to be.

Buffalo Soldiers

"Once let the black man get upon his person the brass letter, U.S., let him get an eagle on his button, and a musket on his shoulder and bullets in his pocket, there is no power on earth that can deny that he has earned the right to citizenship."

Delicate -scapes of all kinds, koi fish swimming slowly mesmerising and flowing through the medium of nature, or nature flows through Karen.  The work is beautiful.

I create positive African American images in the form of brightly colored original acrylic & watercolor paintings and drawings. My figurative portraits speak of the past relating to the present, while forecasting an optimistic future. Subscribing to the belief that "everything will be all right"; they reflect both whimsy and pride of my African American heritage.

The number of manuscripts in the collections has been estimated as high as 700,000

Malcolm X-Elke Moritz Website

A great tribute to a great man.

At that moment

When they shot Malcolm Little down
On the stage of the Audobon Ballroom,
When his life ran out through bullet holes
(Like the people running out then the murder began)

Roswita Szyszka's Homepage

By conscious manipulation of the diverse elements, I create an alter ego that speaks the dichotomous language of Ying and Yang which divides the soul of every man. By exploring the diverse elements of the human figure and its many reflections and projections, I see a different concept of self and reality, in the same way that a crystal reflects and diffracts its own inner and outer realities. I combine this technique with my internal passion, allowing this emotional element to fuse all disparity into the segmental wholeness of myself.

Ruth Peterson Shorer

Ruth Petersen Shorer captures powerful universal feelings through her personally revealing paintings and sculptures. The expressionistic works were created as a reflection on the dichotomies of life – the joy of family and the sorrow of loss; lives touched by both exhilaration and frustration.
Intensity is felt through depth of color and form as well as content. Her narrative pieces are stories.
They are passionate, inspiring and emotionally rich, much like life.

The Science Of Beauty-- Beauty In The Eye Of The Beholder

The golden ratio, briefly, is the proportional relationship between two lines a and b such that (a + b) is to a as a is to b; in other words, the ratio between the whole and one of its parts is the same as the ratio between its two parts. This doesn’t sound like much in algebra form (a/b = (a + b)/a) and still less when expressed as a decimal (1:1.61814). But draw a rectangle—or build a Parthenon—with sides of a and b, and the sheer cosmic rightness of the thing leaps out at you. If you were to be stranded on a desert island with one particular rectangle, that’s the one you’d go with. Palpably, it’s the first rectangle that occurred to God when he realized he needed another four-sided, right-angled shape to complement his juvenile masterpiece, the square.
